Ga'an

Three just-talking-about-the-weather-see-and-it-is-lovey reasons to bb the shit out of that q and then head over to the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. The mighty Ga’an will be rearing their creepy heads. Finally with a proper debut, the self titled…wait for it…”Ga’an”, which consists of material that’s been floating around since 2009, Ga’an are poised to slowly ooze their way to the top of our city’s proggy psych scene. I mean, no one sounds like Ga’an. They combine good old Krautrock with Goblin like horror movie keyboards and cover it all in vocals that at times are oddly heart felt while also being totally detached and trance inducing. That’s our Ga’an.

2. To loosely paraphrase Paul Stanley, you want more trance inducing? You got more trance inducing. Pillars and Tongues kind of sound like Low covered by Tangerine Dream. Is that something I can possibly say? Too late! Slow and hypnotic tunes layered with keyboards and minimal drums gives you Pillars and Tongues. Summary complete.

3. You’re probably starting to put the pieces together now. Yes, this is night of soggy proggy psych. Axis:Sova fit snugly into this bill. More “rocking” than the aforementioned two bands, Axis:Sova are more Silver Apples than Tangerine Dream. I’ll just keep throwing out Krautrock bands like there’s no tomorrow. Brooklyn’s Ancient Ocean open things in the most minimalistic of minimal ways. Like Tangerine Dream! Really I’m throwing around two. Anyways, this should be the perfect way to end your sweaty Memorial day. Space out for a few hours, walk home in a daze, crawl into bed, and pleasant dreams await. Happy Memorial day, you.
