empty_bottle_front_jpg_595x325_crop_upscale_q85Three reasons to hit up the Empty Bottle tonight…

1. Because everyone needs a Monday night routine shakeup, and the Empty Bottle provides it tonight by featuring some of Chicago’s more abtract, electronic outfits. Headliner rrind is a new music project from Vanessa Harris of Coughs and Learned Helplessness, Bret Koontz of Cool Memories and Dewayne Slightweight. The band’s myspace seems bare with only one song up titled “Facesucker,” which is an monophonic, apocalyptic art-for-arts sake hymnal in the spirit of the Residents. However, tonight’s Empty Bottle gig is being billed as rrind’s record release party, so they will surely have more material to play before hitting the road on a U.S. tour for the rest of February.

2. Because, as usually the case, there’s more. Also performing tonight is the Chicago electro-trance, psychedelic outfit Magic Is Küntmaster, and Psychic Steel who are so cool that they have almost no information about them on the internet other than they’re a band and they’re playing tonight. I didn’t even know that was possible in 2010. Finally, tonight’s opener is the guess which one is not like the others local indie-grunge rocker John Bellows, who recalls Nirvana and noisy ’90s rock than minimal electronic experimentation. Still, this means that the show promises to open with a bang before leading the listener on a mind-bending journey, which should be incredibly fun. In the meantime, here’s a video from Magic Is Küntmaster for you to chew on…

3. Because it’s free. If you haven’t looked at a calendar recently, it’s February 1st. Rent’s due. Save some dough by checking out the show tonight. Yes, save money by going to see killer local acts at the Empty Bottle tonight. There’s really no other way around it.
