And now three reasons to throw on your poncho and dance your way on over to the Double Door this evening for quite the eclectic lineup…
1. It’s Tuesday. The work week is still on its upside. Thanks heavens the Double Door’s No Dough Rock Show is here to rescue us from the monotony so close to the biggest Chicago fest of the summer. Tonight, Chicago’s Dr. Killbot bring their silly sounds, and their self-appointed moniker “king of Electro-Nerd-Punk”, to the stage tonight. Accordions and banjos abound, Dr. Killbot fit somewhere nicely between the sexual innuendo comedy of the Bloodhound Gang and the weird, auditory expositions of The Residents. Get ready for some comic-book rock from the dark recesses of the left side of your brain.
2. Also, on tonight’s bill are Chicago’s Chapters who play some mean metal. It’s pretty riff heavy stuff that would probably make the cartoon axe heroes in Dethklok slowly nod their head in agreement. One thing about Chapters, for a local band their recordings have quite good production quality as you can hear every little guitar harmony nuance in tracks such as “The Field” on their Myspace. Smokin’ and drinkin’ on a Tuesday night? Probably encouraged during Chapters’ set.
3. There’s also…uh…three more bands on the bill? Whoa. And they’re all completely different. You’ve got the bouncy, dub-punk of Chicago’s Bad Brains-meets-Sublime act Papa Jupiter, the demented sludge-punk of locals Hot For Preacher and, finally, there’s the dark, slow-burning meditations of Napoli, Italy’s 24 Grana. Whew, that’s a lot of rock for the small price of nothing.
8:30 p.m. Tuesday, 8/3. Double Door. 21+. FREE!
