1. Monday Night…in the park…or something like that anyway. Now that July 4 is done we’re officially heading into the dog days of summer, which means your chances to see killer acts at Millennium Park’s Priztker Pavilion for the Downtown Sound Music Series are numbered with only three shows remaining after tonight. But tonight’s bill might just be the best as Chicago lofi garage-y psych rockers Disappears plan on making quiet a bit of racket. Their most recent release, Lux, has pushed their sound to the sonic extremes with epic guitar crashes and pyshchedelia-tinged walkers that stay on course but change just enough to remain engaging. It’s really good – in fact, you will probably see a review of Lux on Loud Loop in the very near future.
2. It’s July 5 – So how’s about a video. Here’s a clip of a Disappears performance from those Chicago practice-space-video-tapers, Giant System, performing a rowdy downstroke anthem:

3. Headlining tonight’s Pritzker Pavilion show are Oregon indie-punkers The Thermals. The now trio have released a couple of critically acclaimed album over their short career including 2006′s politically-charged The Body, The Blood, The Machine. At last year’s Pitchfork Fest, the band’s set was oddly filled with covers ranging from Nirvana to Sonic Youth to Green Day, but seeing how they have a new album, Personal Life, set for a September release, we expect some new tuneage.
6:30 p.m. Monday, 7/5. Pritzker Pavilion. All Ages. FREE!!!
