Three reasons to strap on your snow shoes and trek on over to the Beat Kitchen tonight…
1. Reading Dawn Landes’ bio is like reading a who’s who of influences. Apparently you’ll find her style nestled comfortably between the grand old dames of country, the White Stripes, the Black Keys, Pavement and Cat Power. The reason her influences line up this way might be due to the fact that Dawn has resided in Branson, MO, Louisville, KT, and Brooklyn. The Brooklyn in New York even. Call her the human sponge. (Editor’s note: You might also recognize her song “Straight Lines” from that Chrysler commercial.)
2. Opener, Chicago’s very own Rachele Eve, has been busy penning the next generation of iPod commercial songs since 2006. But with raging guitar solos. So maybe you should keep your ears peeled and eyes open for possibly the next Fiona Apple by way of Feist with a dash of Regina Spektor. You know, before you can’t escape her songs for the life of you.
3. So, umm, if you watch this video I can’t help but think you might end up with a little crush on Dawn. I know that shouldn’t influence your tastes, but lets just be up front here and admit that we all daydream about casually running into certain artists and, oh, hi, you just overheard me talking about something pretty smart and clever and now you’d like to join me for coffee? We all do that, right?
8:30 PM. Tuesday, 2/9. The Beat Kitchen. 17+. $10.
