Three reasons to pour some mello yello on the curb and chill at the Beat Kitchen tonight…

1. Visiting from Lawrence, Kansas, are quartet Cowboy Indian Bear. The indie rockers specialize in mellow pop rock in the same vein as Death Cab for Cutie. Songs like “Heart Be,” from the band’s debut Each Other All the Time, conjures in the same tender feelings accompanied by bouncy guitar and floating harmonies.

2. Eddie Vedder and Tiny Tim aren’t the only ones who rock a ukulele. Local folky pop songstress Hawley Shoffner can wield a uke just as well as an acoustic guitar that she uses to create delicately strummed pop gems with graceful, sunny vocals that are reminiscent of Feist. 3. Chicago trio Duller Colors prove that there’s nothing wrong with shades of gray. The group plays jangly pop rock with plenty of heart and sparkle. Opening the show tonight is Evanston-based singer-songwriter Kevin Higden.
