Three you-bring-the-rock-I’ll-bring-the-roll reasons to head over to Beat Kitchen tonight…

1. Aussie duo An Horse is special. No, not because they use the article “an” in combination with the noun “horse,” but because the band creates beautiful sweeping pop compositions. An Horse don’t reinvent the indie pop wheel on its sophomore album Walls, but that doesn’t stop them from compiling tracks that overflow with full, lush melodies (“100 Whales”) and fierce rock attitude (“Trains and Tracks”). An Horse is a cozy alterna-pop blanket and who wouldn’t want to wrap themselves inside of that?

2. Chicago surf-and-turf garage rockers Magic Milk take the all-mighty middle slot tonight. These are good kids who’ll probably give you the shirt off their backs, just as soon as Magic Milk’s frontman Kenny Alden is done dropping his pants (true story). But enough about pants, Magic Milk rattles off plenty of knife-fight party music equipped with fuzzy guitars, distorted vocals, sweet, danceable drums and bass, and the occasional harmonica solo. It’s good old-fashioned rock and roll fun.

3. Well, turns out Magic Milk are the meat in our swanky pop sandwich because show openers Warm Ones play head-bopping, endearing power-pop. The Chicago outfit can be cute ala Sloan and Teenage Fanclub on songs like “Wonders of the World” and “Ulysees” or ramp up the post-punk adrenaline on songs like “GSS,” from the group’s album Sprezzatura.
