l_3cb8ce75ab5b47f6a93284760e984a5aThree reasons to check out A Sample Life at Subterranean tonight…

1. Because you’ve probably never heard or seen a band like Chicago’s A Sample Life before. A duo consisting of Adam Stein and Stephanie Fravel, A Sample Life blend acoustic melodies, hip-hop beats and samples with Fravel’s sunny vocals to create quirky pop tunes that at anytime could break down into a groovy Beatles or bouncy Jay-Z cover. And I’m not even joking. Check out the track “A Sample Medley” from the band’s Myspace page. While it sounds like a novelty act, A Sample Life actually offer a very intriguing, fresh sound that features the right amount of experimentation to entice the listener, not overwhelm them. Check out this video of A Sample Life jamming in their home studio after the jump.

2. Because A Sample Life isn’t the only band brining the funk to the Subterranean tonight. Local inidie electro-soul outfit Boomjuice will also be performing tonight. Another duo, the band consists of producer Vapor Eyes & singer/songwriter Capriquarius, and together, they produce a sound that recalls a mashup of Jamiroquai and Daft Punk at times but maintains a heavy hip-hop low end.

3. Because that’s not all! Opening the show is Chicago’s Crayolala!, a bouncy, new wave group that knows their way around a synthesizer hook. The band’s energetic sound make even the shyest dancers do the pogo, so be sure to wear your sweat band. It’s a party whenever Crayolala! hit the stage!

8:00 PM. Tuesday, 2/2. Subterranean. 21+. $8.
