Hold onto your hats (your tiny biking hats) late 20-something Chicago raised indie rockers! Your favorite band, Hum is poised to reunite once again to send you all into a tizzy.
Remember how you all paid, I believe, upwards of $65 to see them on new years at the Double Door a few years back? Seemed a bit much, but this time around you may get to keep your wallet in your pocket because, according to Hum’s Web site, this reunion show will take place at Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park on Monday, May 31. That means free, right? More details to come.
In the meantime, pull out those old cd’s or buy them again (I’m sure you can find them in the cut-out bins), and remember what it was like to be in your teens. When local bands seemed like gods, and Radiohead hadn’t yet completely blown your minds.

I still listen to Hum, allll the time! Great news! Thanks Ross.
this is like a weird sociological experiment for me because, coming from the west coast, hum had absolutely no impact on my life. but folks here lose their shit over them. i just don’t hear it. but i am the old guy who also has no affinity for helmet because they sounded like watered down quicksand to me. but i’m happy for y’all because, as an old guy, i do understand the joy of seeing bands that influenced your life getting back together to remind you of the time when music was everything. i’ll give you that.
Hum came out at a time when people worshiped music. And for musically isolated kids from small towns like me, it was like the heavens opened up and gave us the hope that there was still awesomeness to find out there.
I remember when I first got “You’d Prefer an Astronaut” album and my best friends and I all decided to pierce our own belly buttons with safety pins and be rebels (not nearly as successful as you might think…). But one of my friends demanded that we listen to “Stars” on repeat until she was pierced. It was a little gross, yet unforgettable.
Thank the music gods for bands like Hum and the only radio station that played amazing music for me while I grew up in Po-Dunk, Ohio: 107.9 The End. Now, The End may be gone, but Hum is coming back and that makes me happy!
On another side note to “You’d Prefer an Astronaut”, I grew my hair extra long in high school because of “I Like Your Hair Long”.
See? So much history!
oh yes..i remember that new years. sold out show.. i was working that day, and found a $100 bill on the floor. nobody claimed it so my boss let me keep it AND leave early to try and get tickets off some scalper.. we ended up getting 2 tickets for $90, and paid $10 for parking. all because some poor kid lost his christmas money in my record store!
much happier to see them for free this time round!
