Many of Chicago’s top artists are contributing to Haiti earthquake relief efforts. Here’s a rundown of what some of them are doing to benefit the people of Haiti in this time of need.
-
Andrew Bird and Umphrey’s McGee are among a group of over 200 musicians and bands that donated songs for download via Paste Magazine‘s Songs for Haiti -- 2010 Earthquake Relief. A donation through the site allows access to Paste’s Download Vault containing over 250 available tracks to rip.
- A track from Lupe Fiasco is included on the album Download to Donate Haiti, which also has songs from Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette and Peter Gabriel and others. The proceeds from the sale of the downloads will go to charities working in Haiti.
- On Friday, January 22 Jennifer Hudson will perform as part of the Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief which is being co-organized by George Clooney and the MTV Networks. Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Bono and Bruce Springsteen are part an all-star line-up that will perform during the two hour telecast starting at 7 p.m. on all the major broadcast stations and MTV’s suite of channels.
- Every Drop Counts organized a benefit concert for Sunday, January 31 at Reggie’s Rock Club. The show will include performances from Rhymefest, The Cool Kids, Fred Hampton Jr., M1 [of Dead Prez], Jean Grae, Mystic, BBU, FM Supreme, Mic Terror, Mikkey Haisted, He Say She Say, Kids These Days, Haki Madhubuti, DJ Sean Mac and DJ Izzo. Proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales will go directly to World Water Relief.
- Additionally, shortly after the earthquake struck Haiti, Twista posted this video titled “911″ (remixing the Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Blige song of the same name) that includes a call for donations to Jean’s Yele organization.
