Plustapes
In honor of its 50th tape release, local music label Plustapes unveiled a new subscription club on Tuesday for its hungry music fans.
In an interview with Loud Loop Press in February, Plustapes founder Dustin Drase said he believed bands release cassettes because it’s a little something extra to give fans.
“For those who get ahold of the tape, it’s a badge of honor,” Drase said. “It’s like, ‘I belong to a secret club with 200 or 300 hundred people.’
“If you go to someone’s house and you see that tape, you know they’re going to be your friend,” he said. “It’s like gang colors for record nerds.”
Well, if you are looking to get your gang colors on, Plustapes subscription club will cost you $33 (US) [$40 (Canada) and $56 (International)], but you also get to listen to the brand new tapes before the general public. Your subscription will include Plustapes’ next six releases, which will be mailed out in pairs of two each month, and a mystery gift.
The Plustapes subscription club will be limited at 50.
The Chicago tape label has announced its next two releases will be Ryley Walker’s Evidence of Things Unseen (No. 50) and Sarah Weis’ Musik & Plus.
Future releases planned for May and June will include a collaboration between Ryley Walker and Daniel Bachman called Of Deathly Premonitions, as well as tapes by Dust Bunnies, Netherfriends and Bearded Astronaut.
