According to Jade Tree Records that one-off special reunion of Chicago’s own Cap’n Jazz in January has turned into a full-fledged reunion with a small tour starting at The Bottom Lounge on July 17*.
UPDATE: Second Cap’n Jazz Show Added: And you thought you missed your chance to catch the recently reunited Cap’t Jazz. Think again. The band has added a second Bottom Lounge show. Tickets for the Sunday, July 18th show can be had at Ticketweb.com.
But get on it, friends. The first show sold out in what seemed like mere minutes. I’d hate for you to blow it twice. Although this news is probably already ripping apart the 30+ indie rock community as that is the very same Sunday that another recently reunited band held in very high regard headlines the Pitchfork Music Fest.
I believe they go by Pavement and made a rather big splash in the world of independent music roughly 15 years ago. Oh, this ought to be good. Somehow I feel in the holier than thou world of indie rock Pavement will come out looking like U2 and Cap’t Jazz like the Minutemen or something. Feel free to leave us your feelings in the comments.
Before there was emo, there was Cap’n Jazz. After Cap’n Jazz? Tons of emo. The brothers Kinsella only released one full length as Cap’t Jazz, and there’s some news on that front as well. Jade Tree will be lovingly re-releasing the band’s anthology, “Analphabetapolothology”, on vinyl for the first time on June 15. The double album will be chock full of never before seen pictures, fliers, and new liner notes from Tim Kinsella himself.
It seems 2010 will be a big year for Chicago darlings. First there was the Hum reunion news and now this. If you were around for the first go round I’m sure your pants are sufficiently soiled. If not, let this be a history lesson for you.
*Show is SOLD OUT.

FYI, the Bottom Lounge show is already sold out … all the tickets went in under 24 hours.
Wow, I had no idea they were that in demand. Thanks for the tip, tankboy!
