UPDATE: Barring any broken hips or gallbladder operations, it seems the American Carnage tour is back on, rescheduled, and ready to leave a path of destruction, or maybe just some hard candies, in its wake.
There were some venue conflicts so some shows have yet to be rescheduled, but the show here at the UIC Pavilion is now set for Aug, 20. So, instead of trudging through the icy tundra to watch two titans of metal in Megadeth and Slayer rip it up, you’ll now be able to show off your favorite illegible black t-shirt and leg tattoos.
In the meantime, Megadeth has scheduled a month of shows celebrating the 20 year anniversary of what some (not this guy) believe to be their masterpiece, Rust In Peace. They will be playing the album in its entirety plus some old favorites and new Endgame tunes as well. Keeping with all of this throw back nostalgia, Testament and Exodus will be in tow. No Chicago dates to speak of, but if you have a car the tour hits Indianapolis on March 11.
And for all you fantasy metalheads playing along at home, the epic collision of the Big Four at the Sonisphere Festival in Sweden is still totally on and, holy crap, you can try to win tickets, airfare, hotel, transportation and $500 at theliveline.com. Sweden and metal go together like torches and really old churches.

man, i really wanted to make some snarky comment about deadheads clinging desperately to the past, so much so that someone leaving a cover band is newsworthy to them and then my slayer/megadeth tour news went up and i had to put things into a little perspective. we all pine for the good old days now and then. at least slayer has all 4 original members. so there
if you’re like me and this news has left a ginormous hole in your heart fear not. the following friday, march 12th, you can fill some of that void with a smaller but still pretty freaking sweet kreator/voivod double bill at the bottom lounge. kreator are basically the german slayer and voivod are, well, voivod, man. plus, chicago’s own and probably grandest metal band, nachtmystium, are the testament of this show. hopefully this will be enough to get you through until the american carnage tour finally carnages chicago
ok, more news not quite fit for the big post…according to their myspace blog, original bassists dave ellefson is re-joining megadeth for not only their rust in peace mini tour but for the canadian/american carnage dates as well. dave and dave have always been the heart of megadeth so it’s nice to see ellefson back in the fold. now if we can get chris polland back…
the latest: to celebrate their sharing a stage for the first time since 1990′s clash of the titans both megadeth and slayer will be playing, in their entirety, the albums they released in that very year. what does that mean? it means megadeth will be playing rust in peace (which they did on a mini-tour while waiting for tom to recover) and slayer will play seasons in the abyss. pretty cool stuff. also, word is tom is fully recovered and doing well. good news abounds.
