Jon Three Sixteen / Sympathy for the Transmission Line Transformer by The Field AuxiliaryChicago’s The Field Auxiliary, a self-described recording/performance ensemble led by Dan Smart with collaborators Rob Jensen, Jon Ozaksut, Josh Kalvelage and others, released a dual single yesterday titled “Jon Three Sixteen / Sympathy for the Transmission Line Transformer”.

While the term “dual single” sounds as if “Jon Three Sixteen / Sympathy for the Transmission Line Transformer” is a two-song single, it’s really one eight-minute plus track, but the first half and second half are completely different. The song begins as a nearly grad pop epic that’s features an old school Sujan Stevens vibe complete with a seemingly choir enhanced chorus. The track’s second half, beginning at around 4:20, is a ambient soundscape that builds in depth until an abrupt ending.
