Seeing how BIGCOLOUR were one of our 12 Chicago Bands To Watch In 2012, we’d be foolish not to keep you up on their happenings.
Well, late last week the soulful Chicago psych-rockers dropped a six-track release dubbed, YOUR BODY DOESN’T LIKE THE DECISIONS YOUR BRAIN MAKES, VOL. I on to their Bandcamp. It’s a compilation of studio-recorded BigColour material spanning between Fall 2010 and Summer 2011 – you know, the golden years.
The collection showcases BigColour’s uncanny ability to be blend creepy psychedelic touches with flowery ’60s pop melodies.
But the highlight of the set is hand downs the crooked, jerky affair better known as, “Lampshade Talker.” Brian Brissart and Alex Auby vocal harmonies are creepy in a Zombie-Beach Boys kind of way. A third of the way through and the song shifts to a loose riff-driven passage that gets quite scruffy due to the buckets of reverb. Listen to “Lampshade Talker” in the top left.
Sound good? Then head to the Chicago Blackhawk VFW Post 7975 (1000 N. Milwaukee Ave. 2nd floor) this Thursday evening as BigColour gets down with Magic Milk and more.
