Chicago is awash with rumors of summer and spring. However, it’s still very much February. And there is nothing better to pass the winter worn days of the shortest month then with the beer soaked sonic escapades of Basic Cable. Consisting of members from local favorites Heavy Times, E+, Running, and more it is with little surprise or shock that the band’s lo-fi three-song demo is creating a stir. Rough around the edges, much like a hang over, the demo begins with the charging drone of “Blonde Ambition,” a taut and driven melody reminiscent of early Nirvana. Followed by the classic Chicago punch-drunk-garage of “Winter Weight” and the punk rattle of “Warmeo,” the 6-minute demo may not melt the ice off your car window, but it certainly will give it a good thrashing. All that being said, make sure to catch Basic Cables’ live debut with Radar Eyes and Negative Scanner at the Burlington this Friday. It certainly will be a doozy, one that will make you forget about the cold long enough to warm your bones. UPDATE: Basic Cable drummer Ryan Duggan dislocated his elbow skateboarding last weekend, so unfortunately, the band has dropped off the bill. Radar Eyes and Negative Scanner will still perform, however. Details here. Download “Blonde Ambition” on Basic Cable’s Bandcamp or listen to it below:
