If you’re keeping count, you’ll notice thats five headliners – one less than Lolla’s recent transition into the nigtly double headliner scheduling of the past two years. Well, Time Out Chicago has the scoop that the final and sixth headliner looks to be French pop-rockers Phoenix, who, if confirmed, will be making the leap into headlining territory much like Kings Of Leon did at Lollapalooza 2009.
Originally we had included Quennect4’s open mic, 20hzx20kHz, in our list of Chicago’s finest. Then we learned that Quennect4 had been forced by the city to close its doors after over four years of giving local artists a place to show their skills.
But, after all those years of hard work the good folks at Q4 are not willing to go down easily. And here’s where you come in: they’re asking for donations, which can be easily pledged at their Kickstarter page.
Having just finished a run of shows that culminated with a stellar performance Feb. 20, at Lincoln Hall, it now appears Tortoise is poised to head back out on the road.
Several venue websites have indicated the post-rock group is planning an extensive tour that will take them from coast to coast in June and September of this year.
Three with warmth comes the rain reasons to jog on over to the Hideout this very evening…
1. You love a party. You love a record release. Therefore, you love a record release party. Tonight is just such a deal. Come celebrate Chicago’s own Shapers, a band willing to take their sound wherever they damn well please, as they celebrate the release of Little, Big.
You like choices, don’t you? Well, how about two (that’s right, count them, two) choices for a Daily Diversion today? You have the choice of either having your face rocked at The Bottom Lounge with NovaRoma or spending a sweet, romantic evening to the gorgeous voice of Arthi Meera at Charleston. Decisions, decisions. But, I’ll give you three reasons to consider each of them…
1. You’ve had a hard beginning to your week. To blow off a little steam, you’re looking for a night of ear-melting metal to slam into your friends to. Chicago’s newest Middle Eastern inspired progressive metal band, NovaRoma, will happily devour your souls on stage tonight.
Last weekend, Chicago post-hardcore outfit Gauge reunited after 16 years to perform three shows: one in Milwaukee and two in Chicago. Here’s a clip of the band playing “Autopilot” during their final reunion performance at the Bottom Lounge last Saturday night. No word yet on if the reunion was a one-off or more shows will be booked. The clip was shot by fan Ray Zschau, and you can also buy Gauge’s EP Mints and their 21-song release II at gauge.bandcamp.com right now.
