Calling all DJs. Lollapalooza wants you!
Lollapalooza announced on its blog that it is bringing back the Lolla Remix Throwdown. The contest allows one lucky DJ to win a whole bunch of swag including $1,000 and the chance to perform on Perry’s stage.
Contestants have until June 25 to submit an original song or remix. A Top 50 semi-finalists will be selected by popular vote and industry judging panel. Those DJs selected will submit one remix of songs provided by Lollapalooza. The Top 4 finalists will be invited to perform at Green Dolphin Street in Chicago on August 1 to determine the contest winner, airfare not included.
Even though someone has to lose, the three runners-up will walk away with two tickets to Lollapalooza, Pioneer HDJ2000 headphones, $150 gift certificate to SatelliteRecords.com and a $750 prize.
So if you’ve got what it takes, check out the contest rules here.

West Fest is back for 2010. The annual street festival that takes place on Chicago Ave. between Damen and Wood will be held on July 10 – 11.
Once again the mighty West Fest will not only be host to many wonderful bands (more on that later), but will also feature local restaurants selling their goods, a Kid Fest for all the hipster’s little ones, and – it being Chicago Ave. – Pet Fest as well.
As for the music, Empty Bottle Presents is doing the heavy lifting and a partial line-up has leaked out. Previous years have had some pretty rad bands including Urge Overkill, Red Red Meat, Meat Puppets, Local H, and the Ponys. So far, this year’s main stage includes site favorites and fellow Chicagoans YAWN, Toronto’s fucked up Fucked Up, Brooklyn’s Small Black, and Scotland’s We Were Promised Jetpacks. Not a bad partial list.

Speculation about the act lineup for the North Coast Music Festival began as early as March when it was announced the first edition of the fest would take place over labor day weekend, September 3 – 5, in Union Park – the same park Pitchfork Fest calls home.
Well, the speculation can end today as the North Coast Music Festival has revealed it’s debut artist lineup, which culls together an eclectic group of hip-hop, electronic and jam band acts.
The festival will boast three headliners, presumably one for each day, and include the Chemical Brothers, Nas & Damian Marley and local jam favorites Umphrey’s McGee. The Disco Biscuits, a DJ set from Moby, Pretty Lights, Cold War Kids, De La Soul, Flying Lotus, Jakob Dylan & Three Legs and locals Loyal Divide are also slated to perform at North Coast Fest.
