Happy Seis de Mayo, muchachos! We’ve got another beautiful weekend ahead of us, and I’m not even talking about the weather. Although, that is pretty nice, too.

Hopefully, you aren’t nursing terrible Cinco de Mayo hangovers from the many sold out concerts that happened yesterday because this weekend is bopping, big time. Without further ado, the staff at Loud Loop Press present our picks for this weekend’s most happening shows including Big Science at Subterranean, ...And You Will Know us by the Trail of Dead at Bottom Lounge, and The Death Set at Empty Bottle. Dig it…

Hey all! Over the past two weeks you might have noticed some status updates on our Facebook about editor Richard Giraldi going on Vocalo 89.5 FM‘s the MusicVox Program.

It’s no coincidence that both visits as of late have been on a Tuesday.

What looks to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship between Vocalo and Loud Loop Press, you’ll be able to catch Giraldi shortly after the 6 p.m. hour on the MusicVox every Tuesday chatting with the always great host Jesse Menendez about some of the biggest local releases of the week.

Tonight, Giralidi will talk about the new White Mystery record, Blood & Venom, of which you’ll see a written review of right here on LLP this Thursday.

Be sure to tune in tonight, and every other Tuesday, at 6 p.m. either at 89.5 FM or online at Vocalo.org, to hear some super rad local music talk.

If there is one single thing we all look forward to every week, it’s the weekend. It doesn’t matter that it’s going to rain or that there could probably be thunderstorms. This is the Midwest, damn it. We don’t care what the weather’s like, we do what we want.

So it’s our pleasure to bring to you those shows that light up every weekend no matter how fog-filled the sky is, no matter how snow-covered the ground is or how smoky your house may be (don’t ask). We’re like the Postal Service. And with that, we’re talking about Young Jesus at the Viaduct (it is Easter), A Lull at Schubas, The Island of Misfit Toys at Lincoln Hall and some strange Canadian band called Arcade Fire. Let’s get to it, people!

The big weekend is upon us and, boy, is it a doozy. Saturday is the fourth edition of Record Store Day and, yes, we’re excited. There will be music booming from every corner and crevice all over town and that doesn’t even account for our many revered venues. Check out our Record Store Day guide for all that good in-store information, featuring your favorite local bands like Tyler Jon Tyler, Ornery Little Darlings, the 1900s and more.

All that RSD excitement aside, in this edition of Weekend Diversions, we’re talking up Mike Watt at Schubas, Hollus at the Double Door, and the big, big, big RSD post-party at Bottom Lounge featuring Light Pollution, among many, many others. Let’s get to it.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that this Saturday, April 16, is the fourth annual Record Store Day. Like the past three years, record stores around the country are offering exclusive releases, great deals, free goodies and even in-store performances for Saturday’s celebration of independently owned record stores. The event is even better if you live in Chicago because there are many great record stores strewn across the city, but it’s hard to keep count of which one is doing what. Therefore, once again, we’ve done the dirty work for you in this handy guide to record store day in Chicago in which we break down which stores have what releases and even which bands you might find playing.

One thing to keep in mind: If you’re on the hunt for the Record Store Day Exclusives, GET THERE EARLY. All of the exclusive releases are being released in limited quantities. Plus, some stores are even offering free goodies, but only to the first few who show up. Finally, we’ll be updating our guide up until Saturday morning with more information as to who will have what and maybe even add some additional locations that we’ve found will be participating as well. But enough small talk. On with the Loud Loop Press Guide to Record Store Day in Chicago:

Ornery Little Darlings

Can you believe it’s Friday? I mean, the week practically started only a few days ago. In any event, this weekend is just as packed, if not more so, than it was last weekend. The only difference? It’s going to be hot! Break out those short shorts and sunglasses, Chicago, because it’s going to get all sweaty up in here.

Without further ado, we present our picks for this weekend’s sexiest shows. Be there and/or be square. Ya dig?
